Introducing the Council’s 2023 Member Survey
Your Participation Matters
At the Council on Foundations, we pride ourselves on being a learning organization – one that continuously seeks to understand, reflect, and evolve. It’s in that spirit that we introduce our upcoming member survey. All of our members will receive an invitation to participate from our research partners, Harder+Company, on Oct. 31. (See the FAQs below for more specifics on that.)
Think of this survey as our way of reaching out and asking, “How are we doing?” and “How can we better support you?” This is your opportunity to share your thoughts on the Council’s initiatives and reflect on what resources would help you better meet your goals.
The Council is a diverse community of organizations of all sizes, focus areas, and geographies, made up of people with a vast spectrum of backgrounds and experiences. We know that each voice in this community adds depth and richness to our collective mission.
That’s why, unlike your typical member survey, ours doesn’t ask you to designate a representative to complete the survey on your organization’s behalf. We believe hearing directly from individuals will yield the most authentic, actionable feedback.
So please keep an eye out for the Oct. 31 email from Harder+Company, a renowned research and evaluation firm committed to the nonprofit and philanthropic sector. Harder’s expertise will ensure that your feedback is captured and reflected accurately and meaningfully, while preserving anonymity.
In the meantime, if it’s been a while since you updated your contact details in your Council account, now is the perfect time to log in and confirm your email address. The survey will be open through Dec. 15. We look forward to your feedback, as we truly believe that every voice matters, every perspective adds value, and each piece of feedback propels us forward.

The invite is from Harder+Company. Check your spam or search your inbox for "Harder+Company." If you still can’t find it, log in to your Council account and confirm your email address is up to date. If it is not, once you update your email address, we will ensure you are on the list to receive the invitation in the next batch of emails. If you are still not sure why you did not receive an invitation to participate, contact us and we will sort it out.
The survey is designed to be comprehensive yet concise. It should take about 10 minutes to complete.
Absolutely. Harder+Company and the Council's research teams will de-identify all responses before any internal or external sharing.
The insights from the survey will help drive internal reflection and decision-making. A summary of the Council’s learnings from the survey will be shared with those who responded once the analysis and reporting is completed.
